I've used a few Braun electronic toothbrushes for some time now, and this latest Triumph model is, not surprisingly, the best. It carries a hefty price tag and so at the end of the day you have to justify the cost compared to cheaper models or even how many regular manual toothbrushes you could buy over the years. But if you want sparkly clean teeth and comfort it's just about worth the money. The toothbrush itself has five modes covering regular cleaning, sensitive, massage, deep clean and polish. It's easy to switch between these and if you are pressing too hard the brush will alert you with beeps and light up a large red light on the back that you can't really miss in your mirror. Keep pressing too hard and the brush will automatically set itself to Sensitive mode to save your poor gums. The included Smart Guide is a bit of a gimmick, frankly. Normally, I would baulk at the idea of paying more than forty pounds for an electric toothbrush, so the prospect of spending double that seems ridiculous. Surely a good manual toothbrush, properly used, is almost as good? I don't know, but looking at the state of my teeth today and the hundreds of pounds I've wasted on dental treatment, perhaps I would have saved money in the long run if I'd invested in a better toothbrush earlier on. The Triumph 5000 is, according to the head of the British Dental Health Foundation, "the Rolls Royce of brushes". That seems a bold claim to make and when I first switched the brush on, I was underwhelmed. The motor seemed to grind slowly compared to my Omron Sonic Style Electric Tothbrush 458, which had a superfast mode that scoured my teeth, leaving them feeling as if I'd just been to the dental hygienist. This was not my first time using an electrical toothbrush, I had previously used one about ten years ago (a Phillips) and had given up on it for several reasons: 1) the cost and limited design of replacement heads, 2) It didn't hold its charge for that long and 3) I had a tendency to use too much pressure and cause my gums to bleed. The Oral-B Triumph 5000 addresses all of these problems and is a far better toothbrush for it. I don't know if it was the way in which I used it but I seem to remember that the old toothbrush had a habit of spraying toothpaste everywhere as well - again this Oral-B brush does not have that problem. This brush comes with three different toothbrush heads: 1) Floss-action, 2) Sensitive and 3) 3D White. There is a fourth type available to buy which is the Precision Clean Brush Head.
