I got my wife this (I'm bald, so the irony of this is lost on me). So what is important to me about a hair dryer? 2 things- 1) it's quiet and 2) it works quickly, so it gets turned off quicker. And this one wins on both scores. I dont think you will ever get a totally silent hair dryer (in my life time), but this is bearable. And it does seem to dry it quickly, before I really get woken up. Couple down sides- the clip on funnel bit is TIGHT; also it is longer than most hairdryers- this meant my wife banged her head a few times until she got used to it. This did provide a bit of physical comedy for a few times, until she saw me laughing. Then I stopped laughing, because apparently it was 'not funny'. She also said she liked the pretty pattern on the end of it. I am not sure if that is important to me, to be honest. That would be like a pretty tin of WD40, or a lovely spanner. The design is lightweight, so no aching arms as you dry the back of your hair. It's also beautifully designed, sleek and a gorgeous, deep metallic plum colour. It has 2 speed settings and 3 heat settings, plus a cool shot, and each setting is hot enough and powerful enough to dry your hair quickly and thoroughly, but not so hot that it overheats the hair (I've found this is the case with previous dryers so the less singeing heat of this model is very welcome.) The BaByliss 5560DU gets the heat/speed settings just right. By far the best feature, though, is the filter at the back - it actually opens so you can clean out those bits of fluff that inexplicably collect in the back. I've found that the fluff in the filter is the main cause of hairdyers becoming broken, or I just don't feel safe using them as they start giving off a burning smell from inside. The first thing that you notice when the BaByliss 5560DU 2100W Hair Dryer arrives through the post is the unusual lack of any sturdy or protective packaging. Now, I'm a person who fully endorses our responsibility not to be wasteful with unnecessary over-packaging; but the serious lack of any form of protective packaging for the duration of the hair dryer's delivery process is really not the smartest idea. What you see in the accompanying video is the entirety of the packaging that the hair dryer came in. No sturdy cardboard exterior box. No bubble-wrap or other such internal packaging materials to protect the product during transit. Inside the hair dryer was loose and the thin box it came within would offer no protection against knocks, bad weather or crushing. Not a great first impression thus far!
